My Natural Hair

So I've been natural now for a little over 2 years now. I decided to go natural because I got tired of putting perms in my hair and I really didn't put a perm in my hair except every other month when I could afford it. Yeah, I know it's not but $6-$7 a box for a perm, but I could never put it in myself correctly so that it would do it's thing. I was looking on the web to see how to take care of my hair as is and saw all the beautiful heads of natural hair pictures and thought that this would be the way for me to go. I wanted to embrace that.

So after I decided to go natural I try to let my hair grow my perm out. After about 2 or 3 months, I went ahead and did a big chop (BC) and I love the way it came out. I loved the curls that I had. Although I had a few people that had to get used to it, it really didn't matter what they thought as long as I was happy with it.

May 5, 2009 was when I did my BC and then in December 2009, with encouragement of a close friend of mine, I decided to loc my hair. I did it in two strand twist and did it myself. During the loc part of my journey, I really didn't like the beginning stages, which some call it the "ugly stage". I really couldn't do much with it other than put my hair in a scarf or hat and let it be. It would have been nice to just let it do it's think while out, but since I take courses at a college, I kept it all tucked in. I started my locs with I think, about maybe 4 inches of hair. When I did my BC I think I had 2 inches of hair.

Well as of today I have had my locs for a little over 1 1/2 years and they are about shoulder length in the back. I'm just waiting for my top area to catch up to the rest of my hair length so that I can try to do different styles. Even though I've had my locs for a little while now, I'm still learning about them and my hair. If you want to read my old post on my journey, you can visit: http://naturalhair2be.onsugar.com
